Correction to: Effectiveness of Macrolides as Add-On Therapy to Beta-Lactams in Community-Acquired Pneumonia: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Correction to: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (2025) 81:83–91

After the publication of this article [1], it came to our attention that there were errors in the data input for both the In-hospital Mortality and Length of Stay (LOS) plots.

In the in-hospital mortality plot, all 90-day mortality data from Garin et al. and Giamarellos-Bourboulis et al. were misclassified as in-hospital mortality. This has been corrected for Garin et al., while the data from Giamarellos-Bourboulis et al. has been removed. Accordingly, the original Fig. 2, the corresponding sentence after the heading “Primary outcome” and the respective information in the abstract is being replaced by:

Corrected Fig. 2. In-hospital Mortality Comparison Between Combination Therapy of Beta-Lactam and Macrolides and Monotherapy of Beta-Lactam.

figure a

Corrected text after the heading “Primary outcome”: Three studies reported in-hospital mortality [2,3,4]. Analysis showed no significant difference between combination therapy of BL and MAC and monotherapy with BL (RR 1.20; 0.95% CI 0.80 to 1.78; p = 0.38; I2 = 0%; Fig. 2).

Corrected information in the abstract: (…) revealed no significant difference in in-hospital mortality (RR 1.20; 0.95% CI 0.80 to 1.78; p = 0.38; I2 = 0%) (…).

For the LOS plot, Dr. Giamarellos-Bourboulis informed us that the means and standard deviations (SDs) we estimated from medians using the Wan and Luo method did not accurately represent the data from the ACCESS trial. We have now revised the means and SDs for Giamarellos-Bourboulis et al. using data provided by the authors. Accordingly, the original Fig. 3, the corresponding sentence in the second paragraph after the heading “Secondary outcomes” and the respective information in the abstract is being replaced by:

Corrected Fig. 3. Length of Stay Comparison Between Combination Therapy of Beta-Lactam and Macrolides and Monotherapy of Beta-Lactam.

figure b

Corrected text in the second paragraph after the heading “Secondary outcomes”: Length of stay also did not significantly differ between combination therapy of BL and MAC and monotherapy with BL (MD −0.10; 95% CI −1.70 to 1.51; p = 0.91; I2 = 82%; Fig. 3).

Corrected information in the abstract: Additionally, no significant differences were observed in the length of hospital stay (MD −0.10; 95% CI −1.70 to 1.51; p = 0.91; I2 = 82%) (…).

We sincerely thank Dr. Giamarellos-Bourboulis and the ACCESS trial research group for their assistance. The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused and confirm that these corrections do not affect the overall discussion or conclusions of the study.
