UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a flag-raising ceremony on Saturday (17/8/2024), to commemorate the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia (RI). The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building, with this year’s theme being “Nusantara Baru, Indonesia Maju.” The event was attended by university leaders and members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), who wore traditional attire from various regions of Indonesia.

On this occasion, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., served as the ceremony’s inspector, with the event being led by Jonathan Adi, a student from the Physics undergraduate program. The ceremony was attended by the UNS academic community, including lecturers, staff, DWP members, and students. The Pancasila text was recited by Aprilia Pamudji, a student of the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Diploma-4 program, while the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution was read by Citra Aura Prima, a student from the English Education undergraduate program. The raising of the red and white flag was carried out by 60 UNS students who are members of the Flag-Raising Troop (Paskibra).

The remark by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, was delivered by Prof. Hartono, who acted as the ceremony inspector. In his remarks, Nadiem Makarim urged all Indonesians to continue striving and uniting in advancing education and culture.

“In the past five years, we have all fought together in the Merdeka Belajar movement. I call it a struggle because the path we have taken has not been easy. We have faced various challenges and difficulties together, and now we are all reaping the sweet fruits of that struggle. I extend my deepest gratitude to all the pioneers and fighters of Merdeka Belajar from Sabang to Merauke. Let us continue the fight to advance Indonesia’s education and culture,” Prof. Hartono conveyed in delivering the Minister’s remarks.

Following the ceremony, a tumpeng-cutting ceremony was held to mark the 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day. The ceremony was led by the UNS Rector, accompanied by the Chairman of the UNS Board of Professors, Prof. Drs. Suranto Tjiptowibisono, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Chair of the UNS Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Sri Sulistyowati, dr.,Sp.OG(K), and the Secretary of the UNS Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, S.T., M.T., in the lobby of the dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building.
