New parents who are breastfeeding need information about the critical window for milk production after giving birth, however this is not always provided, even in Baby Friendly hospitals. Our breastfeeding expert, Dr. Spatz, presents recent scenarios and gives an overview of a newly convened expert committee at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that will conduct a consensus study and produce a report on policies, programs, and investments to better understand the landscape of breastfeeding promotion, initiation, and support in the United States. Dr. Spatz is a member of this expert group.
